Windows 7 enterprise stuck on please wait screen free

Looking for:

Windows 7 enterprise stuck on please wait screen free

My laptop is stuck at "Please wait" forever. - .

The computer gets stuck in a please wait loop when the ethernet cord is connected into his computer. As soon as you disconnect the ethernet the ctrl alt delete prompt comes up and he then can log on.

We also tried connecting the ethernet back in when the log on screen came up. After logging in, we got stuck at the please wait after logging in. The only way he has been able to fully log on into the computer is by having the Ethernet fully unplugged then connecting it once he is on his desktop, which here it becomes super slow anywhere from mins, then everything is normal.

I then tried a USB to Ethernet and that was a no go because it never connected. Even had the driver installed. Next we tried a defrag and ran that in safe mode with networking.

That did not help either but he said his computer is faster. Last we booted into Safe Mode with Networking and turned off certain services which no-go there as well. What was interesting was when booted into safe mode, it booted just like it normally did before the slowness. The last options I have is to reinstall the Ethernet driver but I am not entirely sure if its worth the time to do so. I was even thinking of changing the port he's connected to.

We cannot upgrade the computer to Windows 10 because certain software these people use is based off Windows 7 Pro only. Its also bit as well. Its an HP Compaq pro micro-tower. You can edit Group Policy so that the login messages give you more info rather than 'Please Wait. Ok, thank you.

Yeah the only option we have around this is to have the employee leave there computer on and not too shut it down. This will be something I will look more into next week. Is the computer on a domain or are you logging in locally? I have seen this issue multiple times in a domain environment. Usually its just a matter of rejoining the domain that fixes the issue.

Like rjc2 said above, this can happen when a computer is on a domain. Rebuild the wmi repo, as the last resort. I had 6 workstation's doing this. Wrote script, executed and all is well now. Thank you. I will try these today or sometime this week when I get the chance. We have it working for the time being but like I said he can not reboot the computer. When the employee leaves for the day I will try these suggestions.

The employees of that certain department are on a tight schedule right now. Well I ran the updates, he was missing of them. It still did not solve the issue. If not we will have to give him a new hard drive. I have not, I will be trying that today. I only have limited time to try things because its in a very security tight area, and they do not like to have non-accounting employees in there during after hours.

Final Update. As I was enabling the group policy, the windows update prompt appeared and had me restart the computer. As of now after reboot he was able to log in and not deal with the stuck Please Wait screen. I used the WSUS offline updater to force the updates before, and this caused it to finally install the updates.
